SLUICE REVISITS OCCULT FOLKLORE WITH NEW VIDEO, “SORCIÈRE DE LA POINTE-DU-SAULT”

UPCOMING PERFORMANCES AT FRANCOFEST WITH LES HAY BABIES IN HALIFAX & LA FRANCOFÊTE EN ACADIE IN DIEPPE/MONCTON

With Halloween on the horizon, Acajonne powerpop trio SLUICE delves into the world of witchcraft with their new music video, “Sorcière de la Pointe-du-Sault.” Watch it HERE or by clicking on the player above.

“Sorcière de la Pointe-du-Sault” borrows from generational folklore to tell the story of Vitaline Muise, a woman from Sluice Point, Nova Scotia who many in the community believed to be a real life witch. Combining tales about casting spells, dancing ducks, and unexplained fires passed down through the whisperings of Acadian children, the lyrics also draw on anecdotes collected by renowned folklorist Helen Creighton to underpin the longstanding belief in witchcraft throughout many Par-en-Bas villages.

« At Morris Island + Surett’s Island [sic] and Amirault’s Hill they used to believe in witchcraft.” – Helen Creighton, Bluenose Magic: Popular Beliefs and Superstitions in Nova Scotia, p. 61

The music video for “Sorcière de la Pointe-du-Sault” juxtaposes these stories of “old school” sorcery by focusing instead on contemporary witchcraft. Shot by acclaimed director MOOSECANFLY (Customer ServiceGoldie BoutilierNicole Ariana), director of photography Andrew Rhodenizer, and starring Jadelyn Ross, the video depicts a very online witch casting spells on the unassuming band through both the ether and the internet.

The release of this new video comes ahead of three upcoming performances for Sluice this fall – an opening slot for Les Hay Babies at Francofest in Halifax, NS on October 25, an acoustic solo showcase as part of the Café Export component of la FrancoFête en Acadie in Dieppe, NB on November 06, and a full-band showcase during the FrancoFête’s official afterparty series ONÉPASCOUCHÉS in Moncton, NB on November 07. Full details are below.
