ACADIAN EMBASSY’S TREVOR MURPHY RECEIVES LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR’S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR L’ACADIE AND FRANCOPHONIE OF NOVA SCOTIA

Trevor Murphy, owner of Acadian Embassy and founder of the Acadian pop-rock band Sluice, has been named a recipient of the 2024 Lieutenant-Governor’s Award of Excellence for l’Acadie and Francophonie of Nova Scotia.

Handed out yesterday during a ceremony at Government House in Halifax, NS, the Award recognizes individuals whose social, economic or cultural contributions make a difference in the Francophone community and in Nova Scotia as a whole.

The award was created in 2020 by Lieutenant-Governor Arthur J. LeBlanc – the first Acadian to serve as lieutenant-governor of Nova Scotia – to recognize outstanding citizens in three categories: a Francophone, a Francophile (a person who is not a Francophone but who supports and promotes French language and/or culture), and a Young Francophone OR Young Francophile (a person under the age of 25). Trevor Murphy is the recipient in the Francophone category.

In addition to his work with Acadian Embassy and his bands, Trevor Murphy is currently the President of the Board of Directors for the Fédération culturelle acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse (FéCANE) and is also the 2nd Vice-President on the Music Nova Scotia Board of Directors.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence is the second distinction this year for the work Acadian Embassy has undertaken to foster the development of Acadian artists throughout the province. The company was a nominee in the Soutien à la production artistique (Support for artistic production) category at Les Éloizes – annual awards given out by l’Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick (AAAPNB).
