AN ENERGETIC AND MELANCHOLIC BREAKUP ANTHEM AVAILABLE TODAY
Pop artist SERENA WU releases a new double single, which includes the French song “Détruit (Hate U Now)” and its English version “Hate U Now.” Listen to them both HERE.
Produced, recorded, and mixed by renowned producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, The Once, Quiet Parade), “Détruit/Hate U Now” is an energetic anthem that emotionally expresses the complex feelings of a breakup. From the intro, the Latin rhythm synths and shakers set a melancholic tone, before the chorus bursts into a dynamic mix of guitar, piano, and drums.
The double single captures the pain and guilt associated with the end of a romantic relationship, often caused by circumstances beyond our control, such as moving away or a career change. It explores the heartache of seeing someone who was once close become a stranger after a breakup.
“I wrote this song after my first breakup at 18, when my high school boyfriend left for university,” explains Serena Wu. “We tried a long-distance relationship, but it ended badly, and we hated each other. Then, I struggled with the fact that it was hard to love someone so much, but now hate them because of how it ended.”
“Détruit/Hate U Now” is the second in a series of new bilingual releases from the artist and follows her debut, “Étranger,” released in October 2024 via Acadian Embassy.
The double single “Détruit/Hate U Now” is available to stream or buy today, February 18, 2025.
