TRACK PRODUCED BY DANIEL LEDWELL (JENN GRANT, THE ONCE, QUIET PARADE)
Acadian Embassy celebrates the release of “Étranger,“ a brand new single from bilingual pop artist SERENA WU. Listen HERE or by clicking the artwork above.
Produced, recorded, and mixed by award-winning collaborator Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, The Once, Quiet Parade), the buoyant French-language pop track explores the confusion of falling for someone while simultaneously questioning who they really are. Kicking off with a single staccato ukulele, the song quickly opens up to a panoply of soulful funk-infused instrumentation that propels the quick-hitter track throughout. A playful bassline, shimmering guitar riffs and an energetic brass section provide an ample – and exciting – frame for the young singer’s dynamic voice and textured harmonies.
Though she is the newest addition to the label roster, Serena Wu is certainly no stranger to Acadian Embassy. First coming into orbit of the collective in 2021, Serena provided backup vocals on “Électrique,” a single from Sluice’s debut album, Le succès par le travail. She was also part of the slate of artists presented by Acadian Embassy at Nova Scotia Music Week in Yarmouth, NS last November.
As with many of the label’s artists and projects, Serena comes to the table with a deep connection to the region of Par-en-Bas. Though she is currently based in Halifax, NS, the multi-instrumentalist & singer traces part of her heritage back to the Acadian village of Amirault’s Hill, where members of her family still live.
“Étranger” is the first in a series of new releases – both in French and English – set to come from Serena Wu. An official video for this debut single directed by James Turpin is slated for release on October 16 and another brand new track (also produced & recorded by Daniel Ledwell) will drop in the New Year.
“Étranger” is available to buy and stream on your platform of choice today, Wednesday, October 02, via Acadian Embassy.
